Commander Memering is a native of Xenia, Ohio, and graduated from Purdue University in 2009 with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. He completed naval aviation training and was designated a Naval Aviator in June 2011.

After completing the MH-60S FRS, Commander Memering served with the “Dragonwhales” of HSC-28 in Norfolk, Virginia from 2012-2015. There, he completed deployments aboard the USS Kearsarge in the Mediterranean and Red Sea and a deployment to DET 1 Naples in support of Commander 6th Fleet. He then reported to HT-18 the “Vigilant Eagles” at NAS Whiting Field as an instructor pilot in the TH-57 in 2015, during which time he was selected as CNATRA 2017 Instructor of the Year.

Commander Memering’s first FTS assignment was to the “Merlins” of HSC-3, in San Diego, CA, where he served as the Maintenance and Operations Officer for the SCORE Detachment. He led the first nighttime firefighting helicopter water drops on the USS Bonhomme Richard in July 2020 and earned qualifications as an FRS instructor in the MH-60S. He graduated from the Naval War College in June 2022 with a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies. In addition, he received the Drs. Daniel and Susan Thys Academic Prize for Academic Excellence and the Naval War College Foundation Award. CDR Memering is also a graduate of the Joint and Combined Warfighting School.

Commander Memering reported to Commander Navy Reserve Forces Command in June 2022 as the Flag Secretary and Deputy Chief of Staff Command Services. In November 2024, Commander Memering was selected to serve as Executive Officer Reserve Talent Acquisition Group Northwest. Commander Memering has accumulated more than 2800 hours in Navy aircraft. His personal military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (single
action), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
