CDR Boyd is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2008 and was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps. He was designated a Naval Aviator in March 2010 and completed the fleet replacement pilot
syllabus at Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron THREE (HSC-3) in San Diego, CA.

CDR Boyd’s operational assignments include Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWENTY ONE (HSC-21), 2515th Naval Air Ambulance Detachment in support of OPERATION NEW DAWN, USNS Mercy (T-AH-19) in support of Pacific Partnership, USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) as a Shooter, and
HSC-3 Fleet Support Detachment as a Department Head.

Ashore, CDR Boyd served as an advanced rotary wing instructor pilot, Aviation Safety Officer, and NATOPS Officer at Helicopter Training Squadron EIGHT (HT-8), and was the Executive Officer for Navy Reserve Center North Island supporting over 1,500 Selected Reservists across 60 Navy Reserve Units.
CDR Boyd assumed his current role as the Executive Officer of Navy Reserve Talent Acquisition Group Southwest in December, 2025.

CDR Boyd has flown over 2,000 mishap-free flight hours in Navy aircraft. His awards include a Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Individual and Strike/Flight Air Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Additional recognition includes 2021 and 2022 Association of Naval Aviation Fleet Support/Special Mission Award, and the 2020 Order of Daedalians U.S. Navy Exceptional Aviator Award as a member of LANDSLIDE 18 Flight.
