Senior Chief Petty Officer Joshua W. Alfing was born in Winston Salem, NC in 1980 and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in June 1998. After a brief tenure working, he was sworn into the United States Navy on 7 July 2000 and attended Boot Camp at Recruit Training Command (RTC), Great Lakes, IL in the same month and later to Pensacola, FL for AME “A” School in September. After graduation CMDCS Alfing reported to Fighter Squadron VF-213 where he tested, inspected and performed maintenance on the ejection seats, egress and environmental systems of the F-14 Tomcat. In the spring of 2002, he was promoted to Petty Officer Third Class and Petty Officer Second Class in the fall of 2003. While at VF-213, he earned his Aviation Warfare (AW) Specialist Pin and in 2006 became a Plank Owner as his Squadron transitioned from the F- 14 Tomcat to the FA-18F Super Hornet. Also In 2006, He transferred to VFA-106 where he qualified as a Quality Assurance Safety Observer, Quality Assurance Representative and attended the First Line Leadership Development Program. In 2007 while still on active duty he began to further his education at Saint Leo University and then at the beginning of 2010 he transferred back to VFA-213. At the end of 2010 he ended his time on active duty to focus his attention on his education.

Senior Chief Alfing enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves in April 2012 at Navy Reserve Center (NRC), Greensboro, NC where he was assigned to Expeditionary Maintenance Detachment M in support of the USS Emory S Land (AS-39) and the USS Frank Cable (AS-40) and advanced to Petty Officer First Class. In August 2013, he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In August of 2016 he earned his 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. In 2017 he was selected for Chief Petty Officer and mobilized in 2019 to Camp Lemonier, Djibouti as Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa Comptroller’s Office Senior Enlisted Leader and earned his Surface Warfare (SW) and Information Warfare (IW) Pins. He was then selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2020 while supporting the USS Olympia’s (SSN-717) decommission. His next assignment was to NAVNETWARCOM as the Reserve Program Director where he provided supervision and support to four reserve units. He then became the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Navy Reserve Center (NRC) Roanoke, Va. Through his time in the Navy Reserve he has been highly involved in the Funeral Honors Team performing over 650 Details.

Senior Chief Alfing is currently working with the Inauguration Committee, and has transitioned to Training and Administration of the reserves and will be moving to be the Command Senior Chief of RTAG, Fort Worth, TX. His awards include: Navy Commendation Medal(2), Joint Commendation Medal(1), Navy & Marine Corp Achievement Medal(5), Navy Unit Commendation(2), Meritorious Unit Commendation(2), Navy “E” Ribbon(2) , Navy Good Conduct Medal(4), Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal(3), National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Navy Sea Service Ribbon(3), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Navy Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon, Navy Rifle Sharpshooter Ribbon.

His family includes his wife Tiffany Stafford and their children, daughter’s Olivia (20), Roseanna (19), Helene (15), Lily (13) and sons Nolan (19) and James (16).
