Chaplain Steven “Jess” Clark, a native of Rifle, Colorado, entered active duty in February 2018 after 4 years of pastoral ministry. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Bible & Theology, a Master of Divinity Degree from Oral Roberts University, and is Board Certified with the National Association of Veterans Affairs Chaplains.
Commissioned a Lieutenant Junior Grade, he graduated Officer Development School and Basic Leadership Course at the Naval Chaplaincy School and Center in May 2018 prior to reporting to his first duty station at Commander Navy Region Hawaii. There, he served as the CREDO Deputy Director from 2018 to 2021.
In 2021, he reported to COMBAT LOGISTICS BATTALION 3 and mobilized in support of Task Force Kuleana. Chaplain Clark was assigned to the 3d LITTORAL COMBAT TEAM in 2022, an infantry battalion of the newly redesignated 3d MARINE LITTORAL REGIMENT. During that time, he deployed in support of Balikatan-23. In 2023, he reported to FDNF-J onboard USS MILIUS (DDG69) conducting SEVENTH Fleet operations and additionally tasked with a FIFTH Fleet surge deployment.
In 2025 he reported to Navy Recruiting Command in Millington, TN as the Chaplain Candidate Program Manager/Deputy Director, Chaplain Accessions Programs.
He is an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God. His personal awards include the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and has earned both Surface Chaplain Officer and Fleet Marine Force Officer designations. He and his wife, Hannah, have two children: Ella (5) and Gabriel (3).
