Amanda K. Burd

A native to San Diego, California, she commissioned through the U.S. Naval Academy in 2007. In June 2024, she reported to Navy Talent Acquisition Group, Phoenix as the Executive Officer.
Afloat, she served as Main Propulsion Division Officer on USS COMSTOCK (LSD 45) and as an operational planner for MINE COUNTERMEASURES DIVISION 31 (MCMDIV 31). As a Department Head stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, she served as the Chief Engineer on USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) and the Operations Officer on USS SHILOH (CG 67). Most recently, she served as the Auxiliaries Officer on USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) where she earned the FY21 Navy League Captain Winifred Quick Collins Award for Inspirational Leadership and the FY22 CNAP Inspirational Leadership Award after a WESTPAC deployment.
Ashore, CDR Burd completed the LEAD (Leadership, Education, and Development) program where she earned a Master of Professional Studies degree from the University of Maryland and served as the 15th Company Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy; during this time, she expanded the Brigade’s Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) program, served as an OIC in the offshore sailing program, and completed the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I. During her Post-Department Head tour at the 603rd Air Operations Center (AOC) in Ramstein, Germany, she served as the U.S. Air Forces Europe (USAFE) IAMD Branch Chief, responsible for IAMD planning and operations in Europe and the Levant.
Commander Burd’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
