A native to San Diego, California, CDR Burd commissioned through the U.S. Naval Academy into the Surface Warfare Officer community in 2007. She assumed command of Navy Talent Acquisition (NTAG) Group Phoenix in December 2025 after completing her duties as Executive Officer since June 2024.

CDR Burd’s sea tours include USS COMSTOCK (LSD 45), MINE COUNTERMEASURES DIVISION 31 (MCMDIV 31), USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) as the Chief Engineer, USS SHILOH (CG 67) as the Operations Officer, and USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as the Auxiliaries Officer.

Ashore, CDR Burd served as the 15th Company Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy, operational planner for the U.S. Air Forces Europe, 603rd Air Operations Center (AOC) in Ramstein, Germany, and Director of Operations for Engineering Assessments Pacific (EAP).

She holds a Master of Professional Studies degree in Leadership Development from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science degree in English from the U.S. Naval Academy.

Commander Burd’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. She has been recognized for inspirational leadership with the FY21 Navy League Captain Winifred Quick Collins Award and the FY22 Commander Naval Air Forces Pacific (CNAP) leadership award on USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70)
