Commander Alyssa Norris is a native of Plainfield, Illinois. She graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and received her master’s degree of Professional Studies in Strategic Public Relations from George Washington University in 2017.

Commander Norris received her commission from the Reserved Officer Training Corps in May 2008 and attended flight training at NAS Pensacola. She earned her Naval Flight Officer wings in June 2010 with Patrol Squadron (VP) 30, NAS Jacksonville, Florida.

Her sea tours included P-3C/P-8A NFO Patrol Squadron (VP) 5 and Unmanned Patrol Squadron (VUP) 19 (Aviation Department Head tour) and Training Officer at PCU JOHN F. KENNEDY (CVN-79). She has deployed to the U.S. European, Central, and Pacific Command Areas of Operation, including combat operations in support of Task Force (CTF) 57, Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, ODYSSEY DAWN and UNIFIED PROTECTOR, and Seventh Fleet Operations.

Her ashore and headquarters assignments include P-3C and P-8A NATOPS NFO at Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX)-1, Test NFO curriculum student at U.S. Naval Test Pilot School (graduating Class 147), MQ-4C and P-8A Test Project Officer at Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 20, MQ-4C Training Director at Patrol Squadron (VP) 30, Special Projects Department Head and Operations Officer at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Detachment Jacksonville; Assistant Branch Head at PERS-832 (Enlisted Separations); and most recently, RRL program analyst/MOC PERS Planner at US Fleet Forces. Most recently she served as the N1 Deputy Director at Fleet Cyber Command/TENTH Fleet/NAVSPACE in Fort Meade, MD.

Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy Commendation Award (4), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), Admiral Merlin O’Neill Officer of the Year 2016 award, and various other unit and service awards. Commander Norris is married and has three children.
