Commander Robert “CROB” Crosby, a native of Palatka, Florida, graduated from Jacksonville University in May of 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and earned his commission with the Jacksonville University NROTC program. After completing primary flight training with Training Squadron TWO (VT-2), and Helicopter Training Squadron TWENTY-EIGHT (HT-28), he earned his wings in June of 2011 and completed Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) training with Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FOUR ONE (HSM-41).
Fleet assignments include the “Spartans” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN ZERO (HSM-70) at Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. He deployed in 2014 to the Middle East aboard the USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN-77) and USS TRUXTUN (DDG-103) in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE. Additionally in 2018, Commander Crosby reported to USS IWO JIMA (LHD-7), as Safety Officer, deploying to the Middle East in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE and the North Atlantic in support of Exercise TRIDENT JUNCTURE. In 2020, Commander Crosby joined the “Vipers” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FOUR EIGHT (HSM-48) where he served as the Safety and Operations Department Head, and Detachment Five OIC, onboard USS NITZE (DDG-94).
Previous shore assignments include the “Sea Hawks” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FOUR ZERO (HSM-40) as an FRS Instructor in the MH-60R, and United States Central Command Operations Directorate, where he served as a Joint Operational Planner focusing on contingency planning throughout the Levant Region. As of April 2024, Commander Crosby is currently serving as Executive Officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group Miami.
Commander Crosby has accumulated more than 1,800 military flight hours in the T-34C, TH-57B/C, and MH-60R. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and numerous service, campaign, and unit ribbons.
