Command Master Chief Robert C. Laird, Jr. is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1999 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon completion of basic training, he attended Operations Specialist "A" School in Dam Neck, Virginia. He is a proud graduate of the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course, Major Command Master Chief Course and Senior Enlisted Academy Class 179.   

 

His operational duty tours consist of USS McFaul (DDG 74); Joint Task Force Paladin; USS Vicksburg (CG 69); U.S. AEGIS Ashore Missile Defense System Romania and USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).

 

His shore duty assignments consist of Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Wilmington, Delaware (now NOSC New Castle) and Afloat Training Group Mayport, Florida.

 

Laird Jr. was selected for the Command Master Chief program in 2020 and served as the Command Master Chief of Electronic Attack Squadron ONE THREE EIGHT (VAQ 138), Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC HQ) and is currently assigned as the Command Master Chief of Navy Talent Acquisition Group Philadelphia. 

 

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards) and numerous unit and campaign awards. He attributes all his personal awards and success to his family, mentors, and the Sailors with whom he has proudly served with exemplifying the Navy's Core Values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
