Forrest ‘Tres’ James

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, CDR Forrest ‘Tres’ James entered Naval service in April 1990. After graduating from Boot Camp at RTC San Diego, he attended Apprentice Training Division (ATD) School. Following his first sea tour, he was accepted to the Naval Aircrewman/Rescue Swimmer training pipeline. In August 2003, CDR James earned a commission as a Naval Officer through the Limited Duty Officer (LDO) program.
His operational tours include: Helicopter Combat Support Squadron FIVE (HC-5), NAS Agana, Guam deploying onboard USS San Jose (AFS-7); Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron (Light) FOUR-SEVEN (HSL-47), NAS North Island deploying onboard USS Oldendorf (DD-972) and USS Kinkaid (DD-965); USS John C Stennis (CVN-74), Naval Base Bremerton, WA; Fleet Maritime Patrol Mobile Operations Control Center Mediterranean (FMP MOCC MED), NAS Sigonella, Sicily, IT; Commander, Carrier Strike Group NINE (CCSG-9), embarked onboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76); Mobile Tactical Operations Center TEN, NAS Whidbey Island; and Commander, Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN (CCSG-11), embarked onboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68). Shore tours include: Air Test and Evaluation Squadron ONE (VX-1) at NAS Patuxent River, MD; SPAWARSYSCEN ATLANTIC at Charleston, SC; and OPNAV N-98/Air Warfare Directorate, Pentagon, Washington D.C.
CDR James’ decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, six Navy Commendation Medals, seven Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Global War of Terrorism Medal, four Good Conduct Medals, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He has flown more than 2500 hours in the SH-60B, SH-60F, MH-60S and MH-60R aircraft. He holds a BS in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University. CDR James is married to the former Jenni Maureen Pennington of San Diego, California and they have one daughter, Jada-Mary.
