Captain Kristin Shepherd, a native of Leonardtown, Maryland graduated in 2006 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. She commissioned that same year through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program as a Surface Warfare Officer. She earned a Master of Science in Management, Manpower Systems Analysis and completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase I training at Naval Postgraduate School in 2015.
Captain Shepherd’s operational Surface Warfare tours include USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) and Destroyer Squadron Two Four (COMDESRON 24), where she completed a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf and supported multiple Joint Exercises. Shepherd also served as an Individual Augmentee in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She was forward deployed to Iraq where she conducted detainee operations at Camp Bucca and Camp Cropper, Iraq.
Captain Shepherd transitioned to the Human Resources (HR) Community in August 2011 while serving as Recruiting Operations Officer for Navy Recruiting District Raleigh. She subsequently completed HR tours at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (Military Personnel Plans and Policy) as Section Head for Special and Incentive Pay Policy, U.S. Central Command J1 staff as Deputy Special Actions Branch and Director of Senior Officer Matters, and Chief of Naval Personnel Captain’s Action Group. Most recently, Shepherd served as Executive and Commanding Officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group Pittsburgh.
Captain Shepherd’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as multiple unit and service awards. She has earned her Professional in Human Resources, Society of Human Resources Management, and Leadership Coaching certifications. She is married to Trevor Shepherd and has three children.
