Master Chief Brian Reed enlisted in the Navy in August 1996, attending Boot Camp, Technical Core School, and Data Systems Technician “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois. His “C” School for CVN Computer Peripherals was in Dam Neck, Virginia and then took assignment to his first ship, USS Nimitz (CVN-68), in Newport News, VA in July 1998. He served as Work Center Supervisor during the Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH) and homeport shift to San Diego, California.
In April 2003, he reported to Navy Recruiting District Phoenix, Navy Recruiting Station Los Lunas, where he would serve as Recruiter-In-Charge. There he was honored as Small Station of the Year award and be meritoriously advanced to First Class Petty Officer.
In August 2006, he reported to USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) in Bremerton, Washington, where he served as Leading Petty Officer. He completed two WESTPAC deployments and one Dry-Dock Overhaul. In September 2009, he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer.
In October 2011, he reported to SPAWAR System Center Pacific to work on the OMMS-NG installation and upgrade team. He conducted installations on Carriers, Destroyers, Cruisers, and Submarines for the Pacific Fleet.
In November 2014, he reported to Littoral Combat Ships LCSRONONE, attaining VBSS qualifications and becoming the Surface Warfare Detachment SIX Senior Enlisted Leader where he would serve aboard USS Ft. Worth (LCS-3). This was followed by a homeport shift to Mayport, Florida onboard USS Detroit (LCS-7). This tour included a 4th Fleet deployment for Counter-Narcotics Interdiction while he served as Combat Systems Department Leading Chief Petty Officer.
His next tour kept him in Mayport to serve as the 3M Maintenance Manager onboard USS Carney (DDG-64) beginning in July 2020. He was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer onboard USS Carney in July, 2022.
In June of 2023, he would take orders to USS Boxer (LHD-4) and serve as the Combat Systems Maintenance Manager. In February of 2024, he was selected to the Command Master Chief Program and reported to Navy Talent Acquisition Group Mid-America in St. Louis, Missouri in August 2024.
Master Chief Reed graduated from Manzano High School in Albuquerque New Mexico in 1992, attended junior college at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM from 1992-1994, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from National University in 2017. He is a graduate from the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 197 (Red) in May 2016, and the CMC/COB course 24120 in August 2024.
His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medals, Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medals, Good Conduct Medals, Battle ”E”, and various unit and campaign medals.
