Captain Griffin is a native of Eugene, Oregon. He enlisted in 1991 and attended Gas Turbine Systems (Electrical) A and C schools. His Enlisted tours were as a Law Enforcement Officer with the US Naval Support Activity, Naples Italy Security Department, and as a technician onboard USS Samuel Eliot Morison (FFG-13). In 2001 he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Management from the University of Maryland University College in Naples, Italy, and was selected for Officer Candidate School.

Afloat, Captain Griffin served in the Forward Deployed Naval Forces based in Japan as Strike Officer on USS Cushing (DD-985), Main Propulsion Assistant on USS Harpers Ferry (LSD-49), Chief Engineer on USS Harpers Ferry (LSD-49) and USS Germantown (LSD-42), following a hull swap, and as Reserve Program Director / Plans and Exercises Action Officer at Expeditionary Strike Group SEVEN, White Beach, Okinawa, deploying with the USS Bonhomme Richard Strike Group.

Ashore, Captain Griffin served as Commanding Officer the Navy Reserve Center Las Vegas NV, Commanding Officer, Navy Operational Support Center Buffalo NY, Executive Officer, Navy Operational Support Center, Port Hueneme, Executive Officer, Navy Operational Support Center, Washington DC, and as the Director of Operations and Training (N3/7) at Navy Readiness and Mobilization Command San Diego.

Captain Griffin has earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College and is a graduate of both the US Naval War College and the Joint and Combined Warfighting School at Joint Forces Staff College. He also holds certifications as Certified Defense Financial Manager, Project Management Professional, Senior Professional in Human Resources, and Global Professional in Human Resources.

Captain Griffin has earned the Small Craft Officer in Charge designation. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (Three Awards), Navy Commendation Medal (Three Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Six Awards), the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (Three Awards), as well as various unit and campaign awards.

He is married to the former Mika Nakashima and has two children.
