Commander Kenneweg was born in San Diego, California from a Navy family and raised in Austin, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science
degree in Human Resources Management from Regis University. He commissioned through the University of Texas Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps program in May 2009. Commander Kenneweg is a Reserve Human
Resources Officer (1205 designator) and maintains a current professional in human resources certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute.
Commander Kenneweg’s operational assignment was USS BULKELEY (DDG-84) homeported in Norfolk, Virginia from May 2009 – December 2012 as First Lieutenant, Operations Division Officer, and Public Affairs Officer.
He deployed with the USS ENTERPRISE STRIKE GROUP in 2011 to support OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in contingency operations in the FIFTH and SIXTH FLEET areas of responsibility.
Ashore, Commander Kenneweg served in recruiting tours at Navy Recruiting District San Diego (November 2012 – November 2015), Navy Recruiting District Denver (March 2016 – December 2017) and Navy Talent Acquisition Group Rocky Mountain (December 2017 – January 2019) where he served as officer recruiter, division officer, and assistant operations officer roles. From February 2019 – February 2023, Commander Kenneweg served in Director, Military Personnel Plans and Policy (OPNAV N13) as part of Chief of Naval Personnel staff where he served as action officer, section head, and deputy branch head for Officer Plans and Policy (N131).
As a Selected Reserve member, Commander Kenneweg served as Manpower Department Head, Commander Naval Forces Korea Detachment Alameda from April 2023 to April 2024 and in May 2024, assumed his current role as commanding officer of Mobilization and Deployment Support Command Detachment Alpha San Diego, California. He has most recently provided operational support at Commander Naval Air Force Reserve and U.S. Strategic Command in Type Command N1 and Joint J1 roles from June 2024 – Present.
Commander Kenneweg has earned personal awards and citations, but he remains most proud of the various unit and command awards that recognize the efforts of his team. He is happily married with two boys and a French Bulldog.
