Commander Robert Floyd, a native of Atlanta, Georgia earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Morehouse College and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program in December 2006.
 
His initial sea tour was onboard USS JOHN S. MCCAIN (DDG 56) as combat electronic officer and repair division officer while continuously forward deployed to the Western Pacific Ocean. While onboard he earned his Surface Warfare Qualification.  In 2009, he reported aboard USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55) as training officer.  During this challenging tour, he led USS LEYTE GULF through an arduous training cycle ensuring all complete ship qualifications were met in support of ENTERPRISE CARRIER STRIKE GROUP’s final deployment.
 
In 2011, he reported to the Naval Postgraduate School. He obtained a Master of Science degree in Operations Research in April 2013. He was selected as a Military Operations Research Society, Stephan A. Tisdale Graduate Research Award finalist and also recognized for his excellence thesis. Thereafter, he reported to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) staff as a manpower analyst within the N12 directorate.
 
In 2014, he reported to USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) as Operations Officer. Unaided as an Independent Deployer, he expertly organized and executed comprehensive concepts of operations for all operational requirements to include the find, fix, and finish of high valued individuals in the region. Upon transfer, Commander Floyd reported as Operations Officer aboard USS ANZIO (CG 68) in 2016. He was able to seamlessly integrate into the battle hardened Air and Missile Defense team and completed Anzio’s 2016 deployment to include a bilateral air defense exercise. 
 
Upon completion of his Department Head Tours, Commander Floyd reported to Carrier Strike Group Two and assumed the roles of Assistant Surface Operations Officer deploying to the Mediterranean Sea. Additionally, he served as the deputy surface planner for BALTOPS19, supporting the operational necessities of more than 15 countries' naval objectives. Moving ashore, he was assigned to the Bureau of Personnel as an assignments officer.  Commander Floyd assisted more than 50 commands in the management of officer training and transfer as the Atlantic Fleet CRUDES Placement officer. Commander Floyd returned to sea in 2022 to serve as the Executive Officer of USS JOHN P. MURTHA (LPD 26). His
 
 Commander Floyd has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy Commendation Medal(3), Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal(3), Korean Service Defense Medal and numerous unit citations.
