Commander Dan Giller is a native of Denver, Colorado and completed his undergraduate studies at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia before commissioning through Navy Officer Candidate School in March 2010.

 

At sea, CDR Giller served as Damage Control Assistant aboard the guided missile destroyer USS TRUXTUN (DDG 103) in Norfolk, VA, and Combat Command Center Officer and Operations Officer aboard USS NEW YORK (LPD 21) in Mayport, FL.  His tours afloat include time in Navy’s SECOND, THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH, and SIXTH Fleet areas of operations conducting a variety of maritime missions.  

 

Ashore, CDR Giller served in Washington, DC at the Office of Naval Intelligence’s SABER Division as a threat expert, as Assistant Deputy Director for Flag Officer Development at FLAG MATTERS (OPNAV N00F) in Arlington, VA, and as Officer-in-Charge of Navy Talent Acquisition Onboarding Center Music City in Nashville, TN.  He then commanded the Spokane, WA Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and subsequently served as Deputy Director of Personnel (J-1) at United States Cyber Command’s Joint Force Headquarters – Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN).

 

CDR Giller earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Defense Studies from the United States Naval War College, and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Southern University.  He is a Joint Qualified Officer (JQO), graduate of National Defense University’s Joint Forces Staff College, and a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).  Lastly, CDR Giller was previously distinguished as Navy’s Ship Handler of the Year.

 

He has been recognized with various personal decorations and is most proud that his awards reflect the hard work and success of the many teams on which he has been privileged to serve.
