Command Master Chief Leggett is a native of Raeford, NC, and joined the Navy in August 1990. After basic training in Orlando, FL, he attended quartermaster "A" school, followed by basic enlisted submarine school in Groton CT. He reported to his first submarine, USS Simon Bolivar (SSBN 641B), where he completed three deterrent patrols.


In 1993, he transferred to USS Hampton (SSN 767), where he was advanced to petty officer second class and remained on board until 1995. He then transferred to the staff of Commander, Submarine Group 10 in Kings Bay GA., as a member of the navigation department watch team and served as a trident duty petty officer. During this tour, he was converted to a navigation electronics technician.


He reported to USS Oklahoma City (SSN 723) homeport Norfolk VA. In 1998, where he was advanced to first class petty officer in 2000. During this tour he completed several deployments, qualified assistant navigator and served as navigation division leading petty officer.

 

In 2002 he transferred to the Submarine Learning Facility Norfolk, where he was advanced to chief petty officer in 2002. He served as navigation division lead instructor and LCPO.

 

In 2005, he reported aboard USS Hyman G. Rickover (SSN 709) as the assistant navigator. During this tour he completed one deployment. He later transferred to USS Boise (SSN 764) in 2007 as the assistant navigation. During this time he completed several deployments was promoted to senior chief petty officer and completed COB/CMC qualifications.

 

In 2010, he transferred to the staff of Commander, Submarine Forces Atlantic. During this tour he served as a member of the tactical readiness and evaluation team.

Following his tour at COMSUBLANT, he attended the senior enlisted academy, command master chief/chief of the boat course and relieved as chief of the boat, USS Helena (SSN 723) in January 2013. During this tour, he advanced to master chief petty officer and was selected as a command master chief. 

 

He served as command master chief for supervisor of shipbuilding, conversion and repair, Newport News, VA. From March 2016 to March 2018. Subsequently from March 2018 to March 2021, he served as command master chief of program executive office, submarines, Washington Navy Yard.

 

Currently, Command Master Chief Leggett is assigned as command master chief for Naval Talent Acquisition Group Carolina, Raleigh, NC.3Û43Û4
