He moved up the ranks quickly from petty officer second class to chief petty officer during his four-year-tour with NRD Los Angeles.

In August 2008, he was selected and attended the career recruiting force (CRF) academy. After graduating, he reported to NRD Houston and led a training shop and two zones. Additionally, he was selected as the NRD Houston’s zone supervisor of the year for three consecutive years. Most notably, he was awarded the fiscal year 2011 senior enlisted leadership award and FY 2009 Region West zone supervisor of the year.
