Command Master Chief - NTAG Northern Plains

Senior Chief Phil Vogtman is a native of Park Rapids, Minnesota, and enlisted in the Navy at MEPS Fargo in August 2002. After completion of basic training, he attended Seamanship Apprenticeship Training in Great Lakes.

His first sea tour was aboard USS Thomas S. Gates (CG 51) homeported in Pascagoula, Miss., as an undesignated deck Seaman, and was rated as a Boatswain’s Mate. His follow-on sea tour was onboard Assault Craft Unit Five Detachment WESTPAC Alpha, forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan, as an LCAC Loadmaster. Additional sea tours include USS Frank Cable (AS 40), USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), USS Green Bay (LPD 20), and USS New Orleans (LPD 18).

His shore assignments include Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, serving as the Harbor Master, and the United States Naval Academy where he served as the Waterfront Readiness Department, Senior Enlisted Leader and Yard Patrol Craftmaster.

Senior Chief Vogtman was selected for the Command Senior Chief program in February 2024. His first Command Senior Enlisted Leader tour was aboard USS Sentry (MCM 3) in Manama, Bahrain. Senior Chief Vogtman is currently assigned to Navy Talent Acquisition Group Northern Plains as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader in Fort Snelling, Minn. He is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy (Blue Group, Class 243) and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 2410).

Senior Chief Vogtman holds an Associate’s Degree in Business Management from Coastline Community College. He has earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Information Warfare Dominance insignia, and his Personal awards include six Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, seven Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and numerous service, unit, and campaign awards.
