Master Chief Petty Officer Andrew J. Hochgraver is a South Side native of Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 2000 and attended Basic Training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, followed by Basic Engineering Common Core and Engineman “A” School.

His previous assignments include USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG 58), homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, and Mayport, Florida; Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, where he served as a Recruit Division Commander and advanced to Chief Petty Officer; and USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) in San Diego, California, where he served as “Top Snipe,” advanced to Senior Chief and Master Chief, and was selected for the Command Master Chief Program.

Master Chief Hochgraver’s Command Master Chief tours include USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) in Yokosuka, Japan; USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) in Gaeta, Italy; Naval Support Activity Naples Italy; Naval District Washington, D.C.; and most recently Naval Service Training Command, leading all accessions training for more than 60,000 Sailors annually across the portfolio.

In December 2025, he reported to Navy Talent Acquisition Group Great Lakes, where he currently serves as the Command Master Chief supporting the Navy’s recruiting mission.

He is a graduate of Thomas Edison State College and Trident University, holding degrees in Applied Science and Organizational Leadership. His professional education includes the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 179), Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 129), Executive Leadership Symposium, and the National Defense University Keystone Course (Class 17-2).

His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and various unit and campaign awards. He credits his success to his family, mentors, and the Sailors he has been privileged to serve alongside exemplifying the Navy’s Core Values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
