Jared W. Samuelson

Commander Jared W. Samuelson is a native of Orangeville, Illinois and graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Print Journalism. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Military Studies from Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia, and an Associate’s Degree in German from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California.
Afloat, Commander Samuelson served aboard USS Lake Erie (CG 70) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from 2003-2006 as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, Electrical Officer and Auxiliaries Officer. From 2007 to 2010, he served as Assistant Navigator, Deck Officer and Navigator aboard FGS (F214), homeported in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
Following Department Head School, Commander Samuelson reported to USS ROSS (DDG 71), homeported in Norfolk, VA, as the Operations Officer. On completion of his first department head tour, he was selected for Early Command and assumed command of PC CREW ECHO in February 2013. The crew was permanently assigned to USS WHIRLWIND (PC 11) in Bahrain from June 2013 to July 2014.
Ashore, Lieutenant Commander Samuelson was assigned to the Joint Staff J33 as Maritime Homeland Defense Officer from 2015-2017. From January-November 2017, he served as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Nuclear, Homeland Defense and Current Operations. He served as the liaison officer to the German Armed Forces Staff College in Hamburg Germany from November 2017-July 2019 and as the Chief Staff Officer at Afloat Training Group Pacific in San Diego from October 2019-January 2021. He is married to Dr. HarmoniJoie Noel, formerly of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. He and Harmoni are the proud parents of a daughter, Violet. His son, Andrew, is an infantryman in the U.S. Marine Corps.
