Commanding Officer - NTAG Golden Gate

Commander Dearolf hails from Tampa, FL. He earned his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 2003, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in history. He is aviation warfare qualified, earning his wings of gold in 2005 and assignment to fly the SH-60B Seahawk helicopter.


Operationally, while assigned to HSL-44 from 2006 to 2009, Commander Dearolf deployed aboard the USS Groves (FFG-29) and USS Doyle (FFG-39) in support of counter-narcotic-terrorism (CNT) and NATO Operations. While assigned to HSM-74 from 2014 to 2016, he deployed aboard the USS Truman (CVN-75) and USS Eisenhower (CVN-69) with Carrier Air Wing THREE (CVW-3) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve.


Ashore, Commander Dearolf served as an instructor pilot at HSL-40 from 2010-2012 and transitioned to the MH-60R Seahawk helicopter as the quality assurance officer at HSM-72 in 2013. Following his graduation from the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School, he served as a strategic and operational warfare planner at U.S. Pacific Fleet Headquarters in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He reported to Navy Talent Acquision Group Golden Gate in 2019 to serve as the executive officer.


Commander Dearolf earned an MBA from the University of Florida in 2012 and a Master of Arts from the U.S. Naval War College in 2017. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), and various other service, unit, and personal awards.
