Rear Adm. Alexis “Lex” Walker took command of Navy Recruiting Command March 25, 2022. A native of New York, he began his naval service in 1989 by entering the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Program. Upon completing BOOST, he attended Jacksonville University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communications and was commissioned in December 1994. He earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from The George Washington University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College Fleet Seminar Program.
Walker has served at sea as communications officer and first lieutenant aboard USS Robert G. Bradley (FFG 49); main propulsion assistant and training officer aboard USS Hayler (DD 997); engineer officer aboard USS Cole (DDG 67) and USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55); executive officer of USS Bulkeley (DDG 84); commanding officer of USS Stockdale (DDG 106); and as deputy and commodore of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7.
His shore tours include service as a destroyer/cruiser gas turbine instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School Command (SWOS) in Newport, Rhode Island; a Navy Washington, D.C. intern; post-department head detailer (PERS-411C) at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee; deputy for congressional affairs at U.S. European Command; warfare integration branch head in OPNAV N91; senior military assistant to the Secretary of the Navy; and as deputy chief of legislative affairs at the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs. Walker’s last tour was as commanding officer, Surface Warfare Schools Command.
He has earned various personal, unit, and service awards.
