John Mullen

A native of Bremerton, Washington, Commander John “JMuls” Mullen received his commission in 2002 from the United States Naval Academy and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in 2003. He is a graduate of the P-3C Orion weapons and tactics instructor course in 2008 and the Naval Postgraduate School in 2013 with a degree in financial management.
Cmdr. Mullen’s operational assignments include tours with Patrol Squadron Eight (VP-8) from 2004 to 2007, the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN-77) as a catapult and arresting gear officer from 2010 to 2012, and as a department head with Patrol Squadron Forty-Six (VP-46) from 2014 to 2016.
His shore assignments include an instructor tour with Patrol Squadron Thirty (VP-30) from 2007 to 2010, the Naval Postgraduate School from 2012 to 2013, and as the assistant department head of the Maritime Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Weapons School from 2017 to 2020.
Mullen has logged over 2,000 flight hours and his decorations include three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Air Medals, and other personal, campaign, and service ribbons.
