A native of Alexandria, LA, Commander Kris Brazil enlisted in the United States Navy in September of 1994. After graduating boot camp at RTC Great Lakes, IL and yeoman “A” school at NTTC Meridian, MS he completed tours at Tactical Support Center, Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, PR and Commander, Training Air Wing SIX, Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL. In 1998, petty officer second class Brazil was selected to the broadened opportunity for officer selection and training (BOOST) program in Newport, RI. Upon completion of BOOST, he attended and graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in marketing and was commissioned as a surface warfare officer.

After completing surface warfare officer (SWO) school, Naval Station Newport, RI, he served onboard USS Coronado (AGF-11) as the weapons officer from February 2003 to November 2003 at which time the ship was transitioned to Military Sealift Command. He then served onboard USS Yorktown (CG-48) as the ordnance officer from November 2003 to December 2004 completing a deployment to the North Arabian Gulf and decommissioning the ship. His last tour as a SWO was onboard Commander, Destroyer Squadron ONE as the assistant operations officer from December 2004 to February 2006. Upon completion of this tour, he earned his master’s degree in human resource management from Touro University and was subsequently selected for lateral transfer to the human resource (HR) community.

His first tour as an HR officer was at Navy Recruiting District Houston as officer programs officer and operations officer from March 2006 to July 2008. Additionally, he served as operations officer at Navy Region Southwest Transient Personnel Unit from August 2008 to July 2011 and as training officer and leadership instructor at the Center for Personal and Professional Development from August 2011 to February 2012. He also earned his professional human resources certification in December 2009. He completed a tour as TYCOM IA/exercise manager (N14) at Commander, Naval Surfaces Forces, U. S. Pacific Fleet from March 2012 to March 2014 where he simultaneously earned his joint professional military education, phase I. He has also completed tours at Commander, Naval Personnel Command as deputy executive assistant and executive officer of troops from April 2014 to April 2016 and Special Operations Command as J1 Navy element and commanding officer of troops from May 2016 to July 2018. He is currently stationed at Navy Talent Acquisition Group Golden Gate as the commanding officer.

Cmdr. Brazil’s personal decorations include Defense Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Service Navy Commendation Medal (4), Navy Achievement Medal (5), Navy Good Conduct, and various campaign and service medals.
