Commander Todd S. Levant, native of Chicago, Illinois, commissioned in the United States Navy through officer candidate school as a surface warfare officer in 2000. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois, in June 1998 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in speech pathology and graduated from University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Champaign, Illinois, in 1999 with a Master's Degree in speech pathology. He also has a Master’s Degree in international relations from Salve Regina University.

 

After the completion of officer candidate school in Pensacola Florida, he spent six months in USS Carr (FFG 52) before attending surface warfare officer’s school at Newport, Rhode Island. His first division officer tour was in USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) as damage control assistant. His second division officer tour was in USS Sentry (MCM 3) as the operations officer. His shore assignment was as an instructor at surface warfare officer school Command. Levant served in USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as the combat systems officer.

 

He has served as the executive officer and as the commanding officer in USS Defender (MCM 2) before completing a tour as the operations officer for Commander Task Force 56 and serving as a planner and member of the commander’s design team at United States Strategic Command. Cmdr. Levant assumed command of Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Phoenix in May 2020 after serving as the executive officer since April 2019.

 

Commander Levant has achieved the distinction of Master Training Specialist. He has completed Joint Professional Military Educations Phase I and II. His military awards and decorations include a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, a Meritorious Service Medal, and a Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
