Commander Kemi Elebute is a native of Hyattsville, Maryland. He enlisted in the Navy in May 1995, and served as a radioman onboard USS Nicholson DD982 from December 1995 to August 1997. He graduated from the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in information systems and international business.


Following commissioning, he served as the communications division officer onboard USS Anzio (CG68) from July 2001 to August 2003, participating in a Med and Arabian Gulf deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His second division officer tour was as the fire control officer onboard USS Arleigh Burke (DDG51) from October 2003 to April 2005.


His first shore tour was as a Naval science instructor and the resident surface warfare officer at the Boston University NROTC consortium where he taught navigation, seamanship, and Naval operations. While at Boston University, he earned a Masters of Science degree in computer information systems with a concentration in security.
After completing the SWO department head training course, he volunteered to deploy with the AFRICOM sponsored Africa Partnership Station (APS) where he served as the training coordinator on the staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron 60 embarked on the USS Nashville from January - June 2009. He then checked onboard USS Bainbridge (DDG96) in July 2009 and served as the weapons officer and combat systems officer until August 2012, participating in numerous multinational exercises and two counter-piracy deployments off the Horn of Africa.
His first post department head shore tour was at OPNAV as the deputy director for the Department of the Navy’s Program Information Center (DNS-6), responsible for managing all congressional requests on Navy Acquisition Programs for the director of Navy staff.


He was then selected into the SWO acquisition community and assigned to PMS 505, Fleet introduction and sustainment for littoral combat ship as a readiness engineer, and later the deputy principal assistant to the program manager for Mission Module Fleet Introduction.


His most recent acquisition tour was with PMS 501, LCS shipbuilding as the cost reduction director, leading affordability efforts for both Freedom and Indepenence variants of LCS
Cmdr. Elebute reported as Executive Officer in December 2017 and took command of NTAG Philadelphia in May 2019. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (Four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (Two Awards), and other service medals and ribbons.
