Commander Kristin Shepherd, a native of Leonardtown, Maryland graduated in 2006 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. She commissioned that same year through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program as a Surface Warfare Officer. She earned a Master of Science in Management, Manpower Systems Analysis from Naval Postgraduate School in 2015.
Commander Shepherd’s operational Surface Warfare tours include USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) and Destroyer Squadron Two Four (COMDESRON 24). Shepherd also served as an Individual Augmentee in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She was forward deployed to Iraq where she conducted detainee operations at Camp Bucca and Camp Cropper, Iraq.
Commander Shepherd transitioned to the Human Resources (HR) Community iAugust 2011 while serving as Recruiting Operations Officer for Navy Recruiting District Raleigh. She subsequently completed HR tours on OPNAV N13 staff as Section Head for Special and Incentive Pay Policy, U.S. Central Command J1 staff as Deputy Special Actions Branch and Director of Senior Officer Matters, and was most recently was assigned to the Chief of Naval Personnel Commander’s Action Group.
Commander Shepherd’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various campaign and unit citations. Additionally, Shepherd is the wife to Trevor Shepherd and mother to Teagan, Alice, and Carson Shepherd. Shepherd reported in March 2022 as Executive Officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group Pittsburgh, where she currently serves.
