Master Chief Jayson N. Whalen is currently assigned to Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Nashville.

 

Whalen was born and raised in Exeter, Rhode Island, and graduated from Exeter-West Greenwich High School in 1999. He is married with four children ages 18, 14, 11, and 9. In December 1999 he enlisted in the Navy. He attended Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois. He then reported to Gulfport, Mississippi, where he attended and graduated from Builder A-School.

 

Whalen’s first permanent assignment was to NSA Souda Bay, Crete, Greece, Public Works Department, where he served as a Builder and the Command Locksmith. In June of 2002 he was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three, in Port Hueneme, California, where he served as a Project Supervisor and Squad Leader for numerous deployments and training exercises, including OIF.

 

In December 2004, Whalen reported to ENRO in Pensacola, Florida, for recruiting school. He was then assigned to Navy Recruiting District New England, where he served as the Recruiter-In-Charge of NRS Brockton, MA and NRS East Providence, RI. He was promoted to BUC in September, 2007 and then in March of 2008 was selected for the Career Recruiting force and cross-rated to NCC. He attended the CRF academy in September 2008, in Pensacola, Florida.

 

In October 2008, he reported to NRD Raleigh, where he served as the Zone Supervisor of Zone Three in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Division Four DLCPO in Hickory, North Carolina. In November 2011, he reported to NRD New York, where he served as Division One’s DLCPO in Long Island, NY. In November of 2014, he reported to CNRC’s National Training and Inspection Team where he served as the Senior Trainer. There he was selected to the rank of Senior Chief.

 

 In May 2017 he reported to NRD Richmond, VA. Upon a successful Assistant Chief Recruiter tour in Richmond, he was selected for Master Chief and assigned as the Chief Recruiter of NRD San Diego, now transformed to NTAG Southwest.


He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Ashford University’s Forbes School of Business. Whalen’s decorations include the Seabee Combat Warfare Device, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four gold stars), Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (four gold stars), Meritorious Unit Commendation (1 bronze star), Navy Good Conduct Medal (1 silver star), Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Recruiting Service Ribbon (5 bronze stars) and 47 Recruiting Gold Wreaths.
