Ombudsman Ombudsmen are volunteers appointed by the commanding officer to serve as a primary link/liaison between the commanding officer, command, and command family members. The ombudsman’s main job is to communicate information and concerns between the command families, the command, and the commanding officer. The program was created in 1970 by then-Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Elmo Zumwalt. He recognized that Navy families face many unique issues and concerns and established the Navy Family Ombudsman Program in Z-gram 24 so they would have a way to express their concerns and receive assistance. Since it's creation, the ombudsman program has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of the commands and the Navy families.
Your NRC and Force Ombudsmen receive training that emphasizes the importance of
CONFIDENTIALITY.
Some issues may require us to seek outside support (including potential or
attempted suicide, suspected and established child abuse and/or neglect,
established spouse abuse, drug and/or alcohol abuse, potential homicide or
violent life threatening behavior) as defined in the Ombudsman Instruction
Manual (OPNAVINST 1750.1).
Our job is to help you in anyway we can, by providing information and referrals.

Government Leased Housing
Recruiting personnel are
often assigned to locations where housing costs are not adequately
documented and supported by the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH),
and where military housing is not available within a reasonable
commuting distance. In some cases, recruiters are required to pay
far more out of pocket expenses for housing costs than their peers
in the "Fleet."
All NRC personnel eligible for BAH are eligible. If accepted you will forfeit
your BAH at time of move in. OR
- Distance is greater than 20 miles.
