Master Chief Peterson was born in Victorville, California and raised in Amsterdam, Holland. He graduated from Eldorado High School, Las Vegas, Nevada in June 1991. He entered the U.S. Navy in June 1991, attending basic training at Recruit Training Command San Diego, California.
Master Chief Peterson has served with multiple units throughout his career, with his initial assignment to 1st Force Service Support Group, Medical Battalion, Camp Pendleton California in May 1992. During his tour he deployed with the Marines on numerous operations including operation RESTORE HOPE in Somalia.
Master Chief Peterson entered the preventive medicine community in January 1997, and was subsequently assigned to Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Camp Pendleton, California. He left the community in January 2000 for submarine independent duty school in Groton, Connecticut with follow on orders to USS Augusta (SSN 710) in Groton, Connecticut as the independent duty corpsman for the ship.
During his tour he completed two North Atlantic deployments and participated in operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2003. In May 2004, he reported into Naval Undersea Medical Institute as an instructor, while there he obtained his master training specialist certification.
Peterson left the submarine community in April 2006 to report aboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) in Yokosuka, Japan, as the health services department leading chief. During his tour onboard he completed numerous regional exercises and Western Pacific deployments. In May 2009, he rejoined the submarine community to report into Commander Submarine Group SEVEN, Yokosuka, Japan for duties as the staff CMC and medical representative for deployed submarines to the 5th and 7th Fleets. He was selected into the CMC program in 2012 and reported to VFA 146 that fall. His subsequent CMC tour with NRD San Francisco began in December 2014.
Peterson's professional education includes hospital corpsman "A" school, San Diego, California, field medical technician "B" school, Camp Pendleton, California, preventive medicine technician "C" school, San Diego, California, and submarine independent duty corpsman "C" school, Groton, Connecticut. Master Chief Peterson also holds a bachelors in health services management and a masters in public health from Touro University.
Master Chief Peterson has earned the Enlisted Fleet Marine Force, Submarine, Surface, and Aviation Warfare Specialist qualifications. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
