Commander Jason Eckhardt is a native of League City, Texas and enlisted in the Navy in 1989 as an Aviation Electronics Technician. Selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1998, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from San Diego State University and commissioned in May 2000.

At sea he served onboard USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) where he served as the repair officer, electrical officer, combat systems officer and training officer; USS Crommelin (FFG 37) as chief engineer; USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) the Seventh Fleet Flag Ship as first lieutenant and later returned as executive officer.

Ashore, he served at Fleet Combat Training Center Pacific as lead instructor for Global Command and Control System- Maritime (GCCS-M) course; OPNAV N95 Expeditionary Warfare Division as the mine countermeasures mission requirements officer; served an Individual Augmentee (IA) as deputy current operations for Combined Maritime Forces at NAVCENT conducting counter piracy and narcotic operations; commanded Navy Operational Support Center, White River Junction, VT; chief staff officer for Coastal Riverine Group ONE.

He has earned a Master of Science degree in global leadership from the University of San Diego and attended Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB earning a Master of Arts degree in military operational arts and science.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards) as well as numerous campaign and unit awards.
