Commander Beare is a native of Alexandria, Va., and graduated from West Potomac High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1986 and attended recruit training at RTC San Diego. After completing recruit training, he attended Naval aircrew candidate and rescue swimmer school in Pensacola, Fla., followed by AW “A” School in Millington, Tenn., and then fleet replacement aircrew training at HS-10 in San Diego, Calif. 


His initial sea duty was with the “Wyverns” of HS-12 in Atsugi, Japan, embarked aboard USS Midway (CV 41) serving as an SH-3H aircrewman and rescue swimmer from 1988-1991. In 1991, he reported to VX-1 in Patuxent River, Md., where he transitioned from the SH-3H to the SH-60F/HH-60 aircraft. In 1994, he reported to the “Chargers” of HS-14 in Atsugi, Japan, embarked aboard USS Independence (CV 61). In 1998, he was selected to serve as the AW rating detailer in Millington, Tenn. Here, he was selected for the limited duty officer (LDO) program and commissioned as an ensign in 1999.
After completing LDO/CWO Indoc in Pensacola, Fla., he reported to Navy Personnel Command where he served as support for Navy Selection Boards (PERS-3). In 2000, he reported to Destroyer Squadron SIX (CDS 6) in Pascagoula, Miss., where he served as the Air Operations OfŪcer. In 2003, he reported to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) as assistant strike operations ofŪcer and qualiŪed as a tactical action officer. 


In 2006, he reported to Naval Aviation Schools Command (NASC) in Pensacola, as the aircrew and rescue swimmer school division ofŪcer. While attached to NASC, he served on an IA tour to Al Asad, Iraq. In 2009, he reported to the staff of Carrier Strike Group TWO embarked aboard USS George H W Bush (CVN 77) as assistant air operations ofŪcer and qualified as a battle watch captain. In 2012, he reported to the Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit Dam Neck, Va., where he served as the director of training. In 2015, he reported to the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) as the weapons officer. He assumed his current assignment as the commanding officer of NRD Phoenix in November 2017.


Beare earned his Bachelors of Science degree in organizational management from Crichton College, a Master’s in business administration from Liberty University and a Master’s in public administration from American Military University. 


His personal decorations include three Meritorious Service Medals, two Air Medals, five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (1 with combat “V”), five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and various unit, service and campaign awards.
