Master Chief Schnapp, a native of Mishawaka, Indiana, enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1987. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Florida he reported to Naval Training Center, in Orlando, Florida where he completed apprenticeship training.
 
Upon graduation, he reported for duty with USS Enterprise (CVN-65); and designated as a machinist mate. His assignments include SIMA Norfolk, COMNAVRESCRUITCOM DET TWO;NRD, Indianapolis; USS Detroit (AOE-4): supervisor of shipbuilding, Jacksonville; South Eastern Regional Maintenance Center, Jacksonville; USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67): CJTF- HOA, FOL, Isola Kenya: MSRON 10, Jacksonville: CJTF-HOA, US Embassy Dar Es Salaam: CORIVRON 10, Jacksonville: Naval Medical Center Portsmouth "First and the Finest " Portsmouth, Virginia.
 
Master Chief Schnapp is currently serving as command master chief Naval Recruiting District New Orleans, Louisiana. Master Chief Schnapp is a graduate of the U.S. Navy command master chief/chief of the boat class 144, and Senior Enlisted Academy class 187. In addition, has earned his enlisted surface warfare, and expeditionary warfare.
 
His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Commendation (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
