Commander Ford was born in Nashville and raised in Morristown and Cleveland, Tenn. He enlisted in 1988 as an operations specialist and served aboard USS Stephen W. Groves (FFG 29) and USS Spruance (DD 963). Ford graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in history and minors in chemistry and literature. He was commissioned out of officer candidate school in 1998.

Following officer candidate school, he served aboard USS The Sullivans (DDG 68), as OI division officer and first lieutenant and then aboard USS Taylor (FFG 50) as the training officer.

Cmdr. Ford completed SWOS DH School, in 2006, and reported to USS Simpson (FFG 56) as the operations officer and conducted a counter drug operations deployment. In 2008, he reported to USS Hue City (CG 66) as the operations officer. USS Hue City deployed to Northern Arabian Gulf as the air defense commander for the Harry S. Truman and Enterprise Carrier Strike Groups.

In 2012, he screened for executive officer special mission and reported to USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) as the C5I officer and operations officer. USS Kearsarge along with PHIBRON FOUR and 26MEU deployed for eight months to the Middle East in 2013. Ford screened for commanding officer special mission in 2013.

His tours ashore include Afloat Training Group Mayport combat systems director & deputy director; analytics & budget branch head for the Navy Irregular Warfare Office (OPNAV N3/N5); and budget branch head for Air-Sea Battle Office (OPNAV N3/N5). While ashore in 2006, he earned a Master of Science in public administration from the University of North Florida and successfully completed JPME Phase 1 and in 2015, he earned a Master of Arts in national security and strategic studies, JPME Phase 2 from the Naval War College and is a HALSEY BRAVO advanced research graduate.

He became the executive officer of Navy Recruiting District Nashville in May 2016.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medals, Navy Commendation Medals, Navy Achievement Medals and various unit and service awards.
