Commander Sullivan is a native of Rockford, Ill., he enlisted in March of 1988. Upon successful completion of basic training and storekeeper “A” school, he volunteered for submarine duty. During his enlisted service, he achieved a significant milestone and was initiated as a chief petty officer in September, 1996. He served aboard USS Groton (SSN 694), the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron TWO ZERO (CSS-20) and the USS Maryland (SSBN 738) (GOLD).  He earned his submarine warfare device and SCUBA Diver pins during his first enlistment. 

Cmdr. Sullivan earned his commission June 1st, 1999 via the limited duty officer program as a supply corps officer. 

His sea tours include a division officer tour with two WESTPAC deployments in USS Camden (AOE 2) and a department head tour in USS Florida (SSGN-728) where he completed the conversion from SSBN to SSGN.
Assignments ashore include officer in charge Aviation Support Detachment Oceana and NAS Oceana, VA and deputy chief of staff for logistics and executive officer at Submarine Group TEN, Kings Bay, GA. During his tour at Group TEN he deployed to Al Asad Air Base Iraq in support of operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He lateral transferred to the human resources officer community and served as the deputy chief of staff for deputy commander police – NATO Training Mission Afghanistan and operations officer at Navy Recruiting District Jacksonville, FL where the district was awarded National District of the Year FY-12. He assumed command of Navy Recruiting District Nashville on May 26, 2016.
He has earned a Master’s of Science Degree in management as well as fleet marine force warfare, submarine supply officer warfare, Naval aviation supply officer warfare and surface warfare supply corps officer warfare. Cmdr. Sullivan has completed numerous sea deployments, and has served boots on the ground in both Iraq and Afghanistan
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy Achievement Medal (five awards), Good Conduct (three awards), and he is most proud of the Navy Battle “E” Efficiency awards he has earned alongside his shipmates.
