Commander Joseph Scott is a native of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He holds a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Arkansas State University and a master of science degree in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School. He is a proven operations analysis subspecialist and a joint qualified officer. His professional certifications include senior professional in human resources by the Human Resources Certification Institute and senior certified professional by the Society for Human Resource Management.

 

Cmdr. Scott received his commission in 1999 through the nuclear power instructor officer candidate program and attended officer indoctrination school (now officer development school) in Newport, Rhode Island. His first assignment was as an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, South Carolina. He transitioned into the Navy's human resources community in 2002 and graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2005. His following assignments include command support services deputy department head, Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, San Diego, California; embedded training team member in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Kandahar, Afghanistan; officer post selection board matters action officer, Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tennessee; analytics and metrics branch chief, Bureau of Naval Personnel, Millington, Tennessee; education branch action officer, Chief of Naval Personnel staff, Arlington, Virginia; and personnel plans and operations division chief, NORAD and US Northern Command, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Scott's present assignment is commanding officer of Navy Recruiting District Chicago, Great Lakes, Illinois.

 

Commander Scott's military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Army Commendation medal and various unit and service awards.
