Commander Steven Schultz entered naval service through the delayed entry program in August 1987. After completing boot camp in Great Lakes and graduating from aviation structural mechanic (Structures) A-School and E-2/C-2 FRAMP he reported to VR-24 onboard NAS Sigonella, Sicily.

In 1990, after completing S-3B FRAMP he reported to the Gamblers of VS-28 onboard NAS Cecil Field where he deployed aboard USS Forrestal (CV 59) in support of operations Desert Storm, Provide Comfort, and Deny Flight, in Northern Iraq. He then transferred to NAS Patuxent River, Naval Air Warfare Center aircraft division and Force Warfare where he was assigned to the S-3B aircraft test division as the S-3B airframes supervisor and quality assurance representative on the S-3B, ES-3A, E-2, C-2, and P-3 aircraft.

After completing his tour with Force Warfare, he reported to VS-24 onboard NAS Cecil Field, Florida in 1995 where he completed one deployment aboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67), and two deployments aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). While assigned to VS-24 he promoted to first class petty officer, was initiated to chief petty officer in September 1998 and was commissioned as an aviation maintenance, 6330, ensign, through the limited duty officer (LDO) program in March 2000. 

After LDO/CWO indoctrination and aviation maintenance officer school in Pensacola, Fla., then Ensign Schultz reported to HS-11 onboard NAS Jacksonville in June 2000 as the maintenance material control officer (MMCO). He deployed onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) with the “Dragonslayers” on September 19, 2001 in support of Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.

In June 2003 he reported to HSL-44 onboard NS Mayport, Fla. where he served as the assistant maintenance officer and maintenance material control officer. In April 2006 he reported to VAQ-137 onboard NAS Whidbey Island, Wash., where he completed deployments aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) in both 2006 and 2007. After his tour onboard VAQ-137 he reported to the VQ-1 World Watchers (NAS Whidbey Island) in February 2009, he served as the AMO and MMCO and deployed to Al Udeid, Qatar as the EP-3E detachment maintenance officer. He then reported to Commander Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing 10 (NAS Whidbey Island) in 2011 where he served as the wing readiness officer, assistance maintenance officer and maintenance officer. 

After departing CPRW-10 in June 2013, Cmdr. Schultz reported as the aircraft intermediate maintenance department (AIMD) MMCO aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) forward deployed in Yokosuka, Japan, patrolling the Western Pacific. In May 2015 Cdr. Schultz reported to Naval Test Wing Pacific onboard NAS Point Mugu, Calif., as the wing maintenance officer. Cmdr. Schultz most recently reported to Naval Recruit District Atlanta, based in Smyrna, Ga., on 29 June, 2017.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (seven awards), Navy Achievement Medal (five awards) and various other personal and unit awards.  He holds a bachelor of science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in aeronautical engineering.
