The Navy currently has 9 nuclear-powered carriers in operation.  One more is under construction.  United States Navy aircraft carriers are respected worldwide and travel to all parts of the globe.  There are approximately 300 nuclear-trained jobs available on each nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.


There are two types of submarines:  ballistic missile (SSBN or "boomer") and fast-attack (SSN).  The bulk of the submarine fleet is Los Angeles class fast-attack submarines.  However, since SSBNs have two crews, there are plenty of opportunities to serve on both boomers and fast-attacks during a submarine duty career.
