National Chief Recruiter

NCCM Charles R. Whitfield, IV


   Master Chief Charles Whitfield is assigned as Navy Recruiting Command’s National Chief Recruiter, Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Millington, Tennessee.
   A resident of Deltona, Fla., he enlisted in the United States Navy in May of 1992. After recruit training at Great Lakes, IL and hull technician “A” school Training in Philadelphia, PA, he reported to the USS McKee (AS-41) at Sub Base Point Loma, CA, where he worked in the repair department as a ship fitter and was promoted to petty officer second class.

He then attended hull technician ”C” school in San Diego, CA, graduating at the top of his class as a non-destructive test inspector (Ultrasonic). He was subsequently assigned to the USS Cape Cod based in San Diego. After decommissioning, he was reassigned to serve aboard the USS Shenandoah, home ported in Norfolk, VA. Within a year, this ship was also decommissioned and Whitfield was then released to recruiting duty to attend recruiting orientation in Pensacola, Fl.
During his tour at NRD Miami he qualified as recruiter, LPO, and DLCPO. He also cross-rated to the career recruiting force in 1999 and attained the rank of navy counselor first class. Subsequent tours in Navy Recruiting include: DLCPO at NRD Phoenix, where NCCM Whitfield was selected to chief petty officer in 2003; DLCPO and command trainer at NRD Nashville, where NCCM Whitfield attained the qualification of assistant chief recruiter, and was selected to senior chief petty officer in 2006.
   He then served as both enlisted and officer assistant chief recruiter at NRD Raleigh, attained the qualification of chief recruiter and was selected for promotion to master chief petty officer in 2009. Shortly after, he assumed the duties of chief recruiter of NRD Pittsburgh. He then reported to NRC to serve as national enlisted programs chief recruiter from December 2012 to May of 2014. Prior to assuming the duties as national chief recruiter he served as the region east chief recruiter until September 2015.
   He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, RI, and attained his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in management from Post University in Waterbury, CT. He also holds a master’s of business administration with a focus in supply chain management from Arizona State University.

   His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (5 awards), along with various unit commendations.
