Commander Shannyn Fowler grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and enlisted as a Nuclear Machinist Mate in 1998.  Accepted into the Nuclear Enlisted Commission Program, Commander Fowler graduated from University of New Mexico in 2003, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.  She earned her Master of Business Administration from The University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 2021.
 
Upon earning her commission through Officer Candidate School, she reported to USS TRENTON (LPD 14) as Communications Officer from 2003-2005.  Following completion of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion training pipeline, she assumed duties on board USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) from 2008-2010 as an Electrical Division Officer and the Assistant Reactor Training Assistant where she completed two deployments, an Operational Readiness Safeguard Examination, and Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURVE).
 
She then reported to the Joint Forces Staff College and served as an Aide-de-Camp to the Commandant.  Returning to the surface community, she reported to the USS NEW YORK (LPD 21) as the Combat Systems Officer from 2011-2013 for the ship’s maiden deployment.  Her second department head tour was on board PCU GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78) serving as the ship’s Reactor Training Assistant from 2013 to 2015, overseeing the successful completion of the Reactor Safeguard Examination.
 
Upon completing her department head tours, she served as the Director, Officer Department, at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) in 2016, Flag Aide to the Chief of Naval Operations in 2017, and Regional Program Manager for Building Partnership Capacity at United States European Command (EUCOM) from 2018-2019.   Returning to the nuclear community, she established the Reactor Training program onboard PCU JOHN F. KENNEDY (CVN 79) from 2019 to 2021.  From January 2021 to July 2022 CDR Fowler served as the Executive Officer, Naval Talent Acquisition Group Richmond.   
 
CDR Fowler currently serves as Commanding Officer, Navy Talent Acquisition Group Richmond.
