Commander Clinton Blankenship was born and raised in Fairmont, West Virginia. He is the proud son of a United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran Machine Gunner. He spent a year at the Naval Academy Prep School before receiving an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in political science 2002.

Sea duty tours include his initial assignment to USS Tortuga (LSD-46), where he served as auxiliaries and electrical officer 2004-2006.  He subsequently served as navigator on USS Fort McHenry (LSD-43) from 2006-2008. He then served on board USS Pearl Harbor (LSD-52) as the first lieutenant from 2010-2011. Next he served on USS Anchorage (LPD-23) from 2011-2014 as the operations officer and is a proud plank owner. Most recently, he served as executive officer onboard USS John P. Murtha (LPD-26) from 2019 to 2020.

Ashore, Commander Blankenship attended the Naval War College in 2008, receiving a Master of Arts in national security and strategic studies. From 2014 2016, he was stationed at Naval Personnel Command in Millington, TN where he served as the full time support (Surface warfare, submarine, special warfare, and special operations) detailer and placement officer for PERS-46. From 2016-2018, he served as the commanding officer at Navy Operational Support Center Springfield, Oregon. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, as well as other individual, unit, humanitarian, and campaign awards. Commander Blankenship assumed duties as executive officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group Pacific Northwest in March 2021.
